Highlights of Havana

Havana, the capital of Cuba. It is a bustling city of 2.1 million inhabitants. Originally the Spanish first discovered this island in the 16th century. From here, the Spanish set sail to colonise central and south America.

iVisa.com The city is split into three distinctive zones. You have the old Havana quarter. It is the historic centre of the city. Buildings are delipidated and without paint. Then there is Centro Havana. A main living quarter hedged between old Havana and Vedado. Finally you have Vedado, an upscale high rise area for the wealthier. Moreover as you get further out of the city, areas become more rural and services are sparse.

Most importantly, UNESCO declared Havana a World Heritage Site in 1982. Notably the former is famous for its history, culture, architecture and monuments. Buildings of particular interest include the Stock Exchange and Capitolio Nacional. Also the Museum of Fine Arts, Plaza de Armas and the Grand National Theatre. In addition the area of El Morro hosts colonial fortifications. Furthermore, this is where people hang around at night to make music, dance and be seen.

Besides the obligatory black beans and rice, fried bananas are also a common delicacy in the Cuban diet. Additionally, think about a trip to the cigar making factory. Or for the traveller seeking a nostalgic experience, try Ernest Hemingway’s old joints.

What with classical convertible cars in the street, Havana looks like it is from the nostalgic era of the 1960’s. You can hire one with chauffeur for an hour or two and take in the ambiance.

Not withstanding this Cuban capital is a city to walk around. Albeit enjoy and watch the day to day life of its inhabitants. In conclusion, you will find that Cubans are some of the most resourceful people on the planet.

Over one million tourists visit this city every year.
