“I had a lovely 1.5 days with Aayam….a gentle and thoughtful soul, he definitely knows how to take care of his guests. It’s so easy for these sorts of things to be “standard” but Aayam seemed to know all the cool places to go. I don’t hesitate to recommend Aayam for guide services.” – Jeff, USA
“Aayam was an excellent tour guide, very easy going yet professional, open minded to what I wanted to do and flexible with last minute changes which is important for me as I don’t like a rigid travel schedule. Really enjoyed the day trek to Nagorkot, with its excellent views, great mountain restaurant and the brief interactions with locals. Knows good restaurants to go to, very proud of his city and loves showing it to visitors.” – Andrew, United Kingdom
“Aayam took us around the markets, temples and back alleys of Kathmandu, trying out spices, different foods hidden in courtyards down dark laneways. He kept us entertained with stories from Nepal’s past and gave us an insight into Nepal. He also haggled like a master for some souvenirs and sorted out transport for us. In addition he gave us pointers on what do see and do for the rest of our stay, telling us where the best Christmas Eve party was. All up, we had a blast hanging out with Aayam. He’s a ball of energy which is contagious! We met many great people during our stay, Aayam was definitely a standout. Our trip would not have been as rewarding without meeting up with him. I will recommend Aayam to anyone who is after a similar experience.” – Chris, Australia

Highlights of Kathmandu
Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal. Surprisingly it has a population of approximately 1,000,000 people. Moreover many of those are local migrants, as the city is the centre of the local economy with education, government offices. Consequently the best work opportunities are located there. It stands about 1,400 metres (4,600 ft) above sea-level.
As the central hub for entry into Nepal, tourist facilities are well catered for. As a result you can find money exchange, hotels and restaurants. However make sure you get what you need, as you may not find such facilities in other parts of remote Nepal. Besides this Nepali capital is famous for lokta paper, pashmina shawls, woollen carpets and garments.
On the other hand with both Hinduism and Buddhism being the major religions, their religious festivals rival many in variety and colour.
The most photographed site is the Boudhanath Stupa. Consequently being an important sacred site for buddhists it is now a world heritage site. In addition the Swayambhunath Temple is an ancient religious site important to both the buddhists and the hindus.
For Hindus the Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most sacred in the World. Located along the banks of the Bagmati River it is a cremation site. Note you are only allowed to enter if you are of the Hindu faith.
Another important site is the Kopan Monastery. Interestingly it houses both nuns and monks. They offer courses on meditation.
Alternatively if you are looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of Durbar Square, try the Garden of Dreams. It is a neo classical garden similar in style to a European one. It has a paved perimeter and a central pond. Interspersed with various plantings and pavillions. Ideal for a leisurely walk.
Unfortunately the city suffered a devastating earthquake with a 7.8 magnitude on 25 April 2015. Consequently this caused a lot of destruction to the buildings of historical interest. Thereafter the recovery is slow and it is a work in progress.
Being the gateway to the Himalayas, this city is your hub for exploring the beauty of Nepal. From tropical forests to snow topped mountains, Nepal can offer you an experience like no other. In addition make sure you contract one of our guides to get the most out of your visit.
