Not only is it important to the Indian Industry, but also it boasts geographical landmarks like its pristine rivers and a protected estuary which homes lots of flora and fauna.

It also boasts a rich history. Stone age tools have been found near Pallavaram in Chennai, which date back to prehistoric periods. During the 1st century, Chennai has served as an important administrative, military, and economic centre which has lasted for many centuries. During the age of exploration, Portuguese sailors have settled in places near Chennai and built a port named São Tomé, after a priest who was found to have preached in the area between 52 and 70 CE. It was also a strategic location for the French and British during the 1700s.
